In place of socks – we set off!

Dear readers,

we have decided to create this blog in order to share with you our joy of travelling. This joy is sometimes, paradoxically, difficult or even depressing, but still fascinating.
However, this is not going to be a classical journal, the catalogue of interesting places to visit, or the monument of vanity*. We would like to invite you to sit with us at the bank of Hoi An channel and discuss modern economics.
Come with us and smoke shisha with half-Dutchman, half-Bedouin, who talks to his friend about religion. Feel like conquistadors while watching birds in the neighbourhood of the Devil’s Throat located close to the border between Argentina and Brazil, considering at the same time the system of these famous missions.
Or, if we are lucky enough in the following days, see with us life in Burma through Orwell’s eyes. So, we don’t offer you the journey in the interior of unknown lands, but inside yourselves. In literature, art, beauty.
We offer you reflections “in place of socks”.

You wouldn’t rather ask, but still, first of all, we would like to tell you something about the origins of the name of our blog. Due to my (Kornel’s) forgetfulness, I always read a “what to pack” list to Ewa. Thanks to it, it seems to me that I can control everything on our way, I feel secure and fully prepared. At this point my Darling doesn’t spare me usually some critique too. It was the same at that time, when she heard that I was going to take 5 pairs of socks to Burma. After a short, but rhetorically beautiful and wonderfully sarcastic remark, I decided to reduce this number to 5 and increase the number of another piece of male underwear to 9. Then, when my completely shocked wife asked why I had done it, I replied insolently – “in place of socks”.

Eventually, instead of socks, we took with us our Italian, Terzani, in the form of a book entitled Letters Against the War. We left something ordinary, daily, and unnecessary, replacing it with something different, beautiful, and wise. We would like to present you the same here by giving you the opportunity to get rid of a few pairs of socks and prepare some place for our short columns.
We will not beat Tiziano, but we hope that he watches us from the seventh cloud and keeps his fingers crossed for us, at least a little.
